one more room checked off!
the blank wall is blank no more.

pretty much everything is from Target.
the clock,
the shelves,
the photo collage,
and the frames.

the photographs are mine,
and the hydrangeas are from my garden.

it’s nothing elaborate,
but it feels a lot homier now.
now on to the master bedroom!

Target comes through again.
I now have the 2nd piece for my dining room wall.

Found this gem at Target today.

It’s the first piece for my gallery wall.
Other considerations:

– a fun, retro clock
– photographs
– shelves with ?? on them

And that’s all I got.
Please.  Help me out.
I’ll be scouring Pinterest the next several days
(ok…weeks.  let’s be more realistic.)
for more ideas.
If you have any, please send them my way.
The basic goal?
To make my dining room an inviting place to be.
I want to linger over good food with good friends.

We are almost open for business.
I expect that within a month (or less??) our 3rd floor will be fully
de-cluttered, furnished and ready for housing out-of-towners. :)
The futon and pillows are in transit as we speak and should be delivered by the middle of next week.
I found a most beautiful chair at Target.  Oh how I adore that wonderful place.
And last night I basically stole a comforter from Urban.  Get this – it was originally priced at $130.  It was marked down to $69.99.  And all of their home sale items were then 50% off of the reduced price.  So I walked out of there with this beautiful green and orange quilt (as they call it) for a measly $34.99.  (Just a note about the “quilt” – I have been spoiled by Reenie’s quilts and therefore cannot truly consider this a quilt…hence why I will refer to it as a comforter.)  But if you get the time you should def check out Urban’s clearance on home items – they had rugs and pillows for $10!!
Julia is having lots of fun helping Mommy decorate…

I still have to organize all my craft stuff (yikes!), figure out what on earth to do with this chair, and find a good lamp or two…and then I think we will be done!  Oh, and I’d be lying if I said the room didn’t need a new coat of paint but, well, I’m trying to work up the courage to paint the rest of my downstairs and possibly our bedroom, so I really cannot think about coloring this room just yet.  Fortunately it’s not a hideous color, it’s just boring.

We are very much looking forward to being able to house visitors. :)

DIY Life

Smith Island Cakes.  My Grandma and Grandpa Sharp introduced us to these.  Banana is my all time favorite.  Believe me – they are worth every dollar.

…Which makes me want to make my own 14-Layer Cake.

Homemade crackers.  I am planning on trying these this week.

Spicy Beef & Broccoli from Trader Joe’s.  Those taste-testing stands really work on me.  In fact, they ambush me.

My new favorite T-shirt.  I have already bought it in 3 colors and am debating going back for more.  Perfect fit, perfect material, perfect price.

THIS…

DSC00087 DSC00092 DSC00094Had to go.
It’s been driving me up the wall for months now.
Paperwork, paperwork, paperwork.
I had a system, but it was faulty.  It didn’t work.

So, since Mike was working on a project of his own…

Jules and I went out to Target to gather supplies to organize all of our records and paperwork.  In an ideal world, I would go completely paperless, but I am not there.  Maybe eventually.
The supplies:

– a filing box that is both appealing to the eye and functional
– an accordion file for medical records
– a drawer and shelf combo that is designed for scrapbooking, but works well for my purposes.
– a 3-ring binder with sheet protectors to house the zillions of instruction manuals that I have for all our various appliances.  Shout out to my MIL, Cyndi, for giving me this idea 🙂

And finally, the finished product.  Clean and functional.

Oh and a bonus of Mike’s project?  This bad boy:

He needed a propane torch…so he got one that I could use for creme brulee 🙂
I am very much looking forward to using it.

Such a cool thing.
