She is running 3 days late.  So, we’re not gonna talk about it.

Instead I will tell you what we’ve been up to the last week (when I’ve not been walking miles and miles or crying rivers upon rivers…)

Last week we had the Healeys over for dinner.  I made Pioneer Woman’s Cinnamon Baked French Toast.  That’s right, we had breakfast for dinner.  I highly recommend it.  And, it was so good that I have no pictures of it.  Because we ate it all.  Very quickly.  Really, the only picture I have from the evening is of Lucy, seeing as she was the cutest one in attendance.

The next day my mom stopped by to drop off a gift she got for Julia – a handmade bib and handmade barrettes!!

They are made by The Ellie Rose and they are beautiful!  Mom said she simply couldn’t resist when she saw them, and that she was going to be broke in no time.  To which Mike responded, “yeah we’re ALL gonna be broke in no time!” 
What can I say?  This is how it goes.  It is no fault of mine that we are having a little girl 😉

 

The day after that was July 4th.  We ended up going to the Wilmington Riverfront with my family and it was a grand time.  It was hot, but it was still a lot of fun.

Also, we’ve been doing fun things like making ice cream and blueberry oat  pancakes.

I’ve been cleaning my house and hanging out at the pool.  Going out to tea with friends.  Walking the trail at Ridley Creek.  Anything to keep me busy.  If you have any other ideas of things I should do, please do share.  Because I cannot just sit here.  I will go crazy :) 
I told Mike that I am “mad” at Julia and he said “oh, love, it’s not her fault.  It’s your body that determines when you’ll go into labor.”
That sounded reasonable to me (and it is def true to some extent).
But then I got this email this morning (I get weekly baby emails) that explained how doctors theorize that babies send stress hormones that can trigger the onset of labor.

……

I KNEW she had something to do with it!! 😉

So, all that to say, we are hoping Julia gets the hint sometime soon…she really needs to start firing those stress hormones…

Well, it’s raining here, so my advice to you is to get some tea and a good book and curl up on the couch.  I, on the other hand, may go walking in this rain.

So.  I did not make those glorious Cinnamon-Bun Pancakes after all.

I opted for something a little healthier.  If, in fact, pancakes can be called healthy.

Cinnamon Oat Pancakes.  And let me tell you…they were yummo!!!  We have found a keeper recipe.  AND they have 2 c. of rolled oats in them and I used half whole wheat flour to up the fiber and whole grain value even more.  Which, once they’re topped with butter and maple syrup, not sure how much good I’ve done, but they tasted delicious so I figured every little bit helps!  And I didn’t feel as though I was sacrificing flavor.

Now, you should know something about me.  I stink at flipping pancakes.  As you can see from the picture below.  My mom even got me a pancake flipper for one of my birthday gifts this past year, and while it definitely helps, I suppose some talent is still needed.  I seem to not possess that talent.

Fortunately, once they were slathered in butter and drenched in Maple Syrup (not pancake syrup……) the shape didn’t matter at all.  And the bonus?  They’re EXTREMELY filling, so you don’t need to eat a lot to feel satisfied.

I could definitely see myself making a big batch of the batter on a Sunday and then just frying up cakes throughout the week as we needed them.  It would be super easy and we could still have hot breakfast on a busy morning!  I like that idea.

Cinnamon-Oat Pancakes (Martha Stewart Everyday Food)

Ingredients:
2 c. all=purpose flour (I used 1 c. stone-ground whole wheat, 1 c. white)
1/4 c. packed brown sugar
1 T. baking powder
1 t. salt
1/2 t. ground cinnamon
2 c. old fashioned rolled oats
2 c. milk
2 large eggs
1/4 vegetable oil (you could easily sub applesauce here)

Directions:
1) In a food processor, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and 1 c. oats and pulse a few times to coarsely grind oats.  In a large bowl, whisk together milk, eggs and oil.  Add dry ingredients and 1 c. oats and whisk until just moistened.

2) heat a large skillet or a griddle over medium heat.  Lightly oil skillet.  Drop batter in skillet and cook until a few bubbles have burst.  Flip and cook until browned and cooked through.

Ok. So the deal is: somebody needs to shoot me now before I go make and eat these pancakes.

Pioneer Woman is very unhelpful sometimes.

And add to that the fact that Margie refuses to shoot me before I make and eat these – she instead wants to come over and join me. Sometimes Margie is not very helpful either 😉

Add to the added fact the fact (did you follow that?) that I had waffles on Sunday, I’m drooling over the pancake recipe above, and I’m making pancakes on Friday, and you will finally understand that I am in a sorry, sorry state.

So, in other non-pancake news:

– We find out in 2 days whether we are having a boy or a girl! So excited! Baby has been moving lots and lots this past week or two, and I am loving it!

– I have graduated to Gap Silver which, in Michelle’s words, we’re not sure if this is something to be proud of or worried about 😉

– Meghan and I are entering daily in Gap Maternity’s Sweepstakes. If you are pregnant, check it out. Or….don’t….check it out….i mean 😉

– Andrew pulled an epic prank and almost went to jail. (ok, perhaps that contains a touch of hyperbole. But only a touch.) For full story, see him. Or, see the PSU police report. hahahahaha. It’s an excellent story that will be told to our children’s children.

– Mike and I now have the “Gimme-Back-That-Filet-O-Fish” ringtone on our phones. You cannot beat it.

– Tonight Traci, Michelle and I are watching Food Inc. Our husbands are very worried what will happen to them. In Mike’s words: “I love meat. I don’t want to eat strange meats. Meat is one of the reasons I wake up in the morning.” We will let you know what (if any) conclusions we come to.

– I finally have a date on the calendar to go change my name from Sharp to Smith. I am the world’s greatest procrastinator (and hyperbolist, apparently. What, hyperbolist isn’t a word, you say? Well, it is now.)

– I have forgotten how much I love loose-leaf tea and am getting back into it. Those of you who truly love me will take this as a hint 😉

And that’s about it! Nothing else much is going on. We’ve been kind of boring lately. But check back on Thursday to see if Baby Smitthers is a boy or a girl!

Oh, and enjoy the snow. All 11-hundred inches of it. 🙂
